Threefold Elements of VPET Fostering Industry-Institution Collaboration and Diversified Development
Three Core Elements of Vocational and Professional Education and Training (VPET):
(1) An applied nature with a close partnership between institutions and industries, bringing inspiring learning experience
(2) Practicums and on-the-job training with a focus on industry knowledge and mastery skills
(3) Programmes with continuous enhancement in response to the technological advancements and the changing needs of the economy
VPET plays a key role to provide young people with a parallel learning pathway to acquire work skills for the future, applied knowledge in innovation and technology, and soft skills for moving up the multiple professional ladder.
VPET As a Key Driver to Achieve “Masters of Each Trade”
Producing an agile workforce can meet the rising demand for talents across different sectors in order to keep driving the economy forward in this fast-changing era. VPET constitutes an integral part of Hong Kong’s education system, providing young people with opportunities of practical training at work, application of new and emerging technology to solve real-life problems and acquisition of job-specific skills for the modern workplace. The Government introduced a series of measures at the secondary and the post-secondary levels to strengthen the connections between the industries and the education sector, establish a more comprehensive VPET progression pathway and enhance young people’s competencies to ensure the city’s sustainable development.
VTC「專+導航」
VTC「專+導航」 campaign takes secondary school career and life planning education as its starting point. By leveraging extensive industry resources and professional expertise, it offers a wide range of industry-focused activities for junior secondary students, senior secondary students, teachers and parents. The programme helps students stay informed about the latest industry trends and future opportunities, understand their interests and abilities, explore diverse pathways for further studies and career development, and make well-informed plans for their future.
Aligned with the District Development Networks (DDNs) of the Business-School Partnership Programme, the activities cover nine career exploration themes and VTC's major academic disciplines. These activities include workplace experience programmes, visits, industry talks, skills competitions and interactive workshops, enabling students at different stages of secondary education to gain a multi-faceted understanding of Hong Kong's key industries.
