Threefold Elements of VPET Fostering Industry-Institution Collaboration and Diversified Development
Three Core Elements of Vocational and Professional Education and Training (VPET):
(1) An applied nature with a close partnership between institutions and industries, bringing inspiring learning experience
(2) Practicums and on-the-job training with a focus on industry knowledge and mastery skills
(3) Programmes with continuous enhancement in response to the technological advancements and the changing needs of the economy
VPET plays a key role to provide young people with a parallel learning pathway to acquire work skills for the future, applied knowledge in innovation and technology, and soft skills for moving up the multiple professional ladder.
VPET As a Key Driver to Achieve “Masters of Each Trade”
Producing an agile workforce can meet the rising demand for talents across different sectors in order to keep driving the economy forward in this fast-changing era. VPET constitutes an integral part of Hong Kong’s education system, providing young people with opportunities of practical training at work, application of new and emerging technology to solve real-life problems and acquisition of job-specific skills for the modern workplace. The Government introduced a series of measures at the secondary and the post-secondary levels to strengthen the connections between the industries and the education sector, establish a more comprehensive VPET progression pathway and enhance young people’s competencies to ensure the city’s sustainable development.
VTC「專+導航」Campaign Leading Students to Career Exploration
Life Planning Education enables students’ self-understanding, goal setting, experiential learning, as well as self-reflection and revision. Aiming to raise students’ self-awareness of aspirations, engage them with the latest industry development, provide them with experiential learning opportunities, and encourage them to reflect on and review their interests, VTC「專+導航」campaign has been launched with the following highlights.
VTC「專+導航」Campaign Highlights 
(1) Industry-oriented Thematic Activities
Developed for junior and senior secondary students, secondary school teachers and parents
A series of industry-oriented thematic activities has been developed to facilitate life planning education. The objectives of the activities are enabling students’ self-understanding and equipping them with the knowledge of further studies and career pathways. Students can gain an understanding of different industries through taking part in the career exploration activities ranging from work experience programmes, industry visits and professional talks to competitions and interactive workshops which are designed based on the District Development Networks (DDNs) of the Business-School Partnership Programme.
(2) VPET Mobile Van
A mobile experience centre to schools
The VPET Mobile Van embarks on the life planning education journey with all secondary school students in 2024 on request through interactive games and activities.
(3) 「專+導航」Dedicated Website and Newsletter
A career planning resource pack to classrooms
Looking for inspiring articles on industry development and details about study opportunities? The website serves as a platform for enrolment of Industry-oriented Thematic Activities and provides information about the latest industry development. A newsletter 「職時熱話」 is also published on the website to bring you information about industry trends and help you explore your study pathway in an interesting way.
