Wong Pui-ling learned about various industries through the school-based life planning lessons during her senior secondary school years. Subsequently, she understood about the day-to-day work of the maritime industry and developed her passion in the industry so she decided to pursue a career in it. After HKDSE, she enroled in the Higher Diploma in Maritime Studies at the Maritime Services Training Institute. After graduation, she completed an 18-month internship and obtained a Certificate of Competency (Deck Officer) Class 3, becoming the Third Officer on Sea-going Vessel. Her daily tasks include maintaining firefighting equipment and handling related paperwork. She emphasises that women working on board have no privilege. Currently, she exerts herself towards obtaining the Class 2 Certificate, with the ultimate goal of obtaining the Class 1 Certificate to become a Captain.
